but the stories and memorabilia actually fill TWO books!
This project, which was sponsored by the Cedar Grove Centennial Committee, showcases pictures, mementos, and memories submitted by township residents in commemoration of the township's 100th birthday in 2008.
People submitted stories as well as examples of items recalling special events. Residents reminisced about Bonds' Awful Awfuls, the Pompton Avenue School fire, the Meadowbrook, and even the time Dustin Hoffman directed the local Showcase Players at the High School.
The project grew out of a visit to the home of longtime resident Marian Taylor Canfield who shared a picture of her husband's grade school class for a Girl Scout project -- and with it many wonderful memories of early Cedar Grove.
Mrs. Canfield passed away recently, but the Centennial Committee is especially honored to have some of her stories included in the scrapbook as a lasting remembrance.
The scrapbooks may be viewed at the Cedar Grove Library during regular library hours. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this project!
